    Overview

"Kanga-an" is a shop located in Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture, in the Kita Ward, just a 3-minute walk from Kuramaguchi Station.
The cozy atmosphere of the restaurant with its 40 seats is highly appreciated by many, and it's even become a weekly destination for some.
At this unique establishment, patrons can savor Japanese whiskey at a zen temple.
The knowledgeable master adds to the experience, and it's no wonder that people make reservations weeks in advance.
The cuisine served here is meticulously prepared and visually stunning.
Especially during the autumn foliage season, the view from the bar after a meal is said to be breathtaking.
Even if you only reserve a spot at the bar, you can still enjoy the ambiance of this hidden gem.
The restaurant offers shojin ryori, a type of Buddhist vegetarian cuisine, which delivers rich flavors without using animal proteins or oils.
The dishes served on large plates resemble Chinese cuisine in some ways.
Many visitors make it a point to visit this place every year during their Kyoto trips, partly because of the unique concept of having a bar at a temple.
Some even make reservations through their hotels.
However, those expecting a full-fledged cocktail experience or mixologists might be disappointed.
It's recommended to approach it more as an opportunity to enjoy the stylish bar located at a temple.
From the temple grounds, they were able to admire the illuminated gardens and spend time at the bar.
Additionally, they were allowed to visit the main hall on their way out, thereby getting the chance to see precious treasures comparable to those found in art museums.
We highly recommend visiting this restaurant at least once.
