Chongqing
Overview
Chongqing, a vast metropolis in southwestern China, is famous for its mountainous terrain, spicy cuisine, and stunning riverscapes. It is one of China’s four direct-controlled municipalities and a major economic center. The city is best known for Chongqing hotpot, a fiery and flavorful dish enjoyed in traditional riverside restaurants. Attractions include Hongya Cave, a multi-level shopping and dining complex resembling an ancient town, Ciqikou Ancient Town, which preserves centuries-old traditions, and the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River. Chongqing’s unique topography results in a dramatic skyline with high-rise buildings set against steep cliffs. It is also a major transportation hub, offering cruises along the Yangtze and access to Sichuan’s panda reserves.
